Carol Epstein brings 40 years of experience in the financial industry, having held various roles in branch banking, from teller to branch manager. In the last 15 years of her career, she specialized in operations and compliance, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Graduate of CBA Executive Banking School.

Caregiver Coaching model

Caregiver Coaching model – is an approach in early intervention (EI) that equips caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and strategies to support their child’s learning and development through everyday routines and interactions. By collaborating with EI providers, caregivers gain confidence and competence in addressing their child’s unique needs.

This model works best because it empowers caregivers—those most involved in a child’s daily life—to integrate learning opportunities into regular routines, fostering consistent and meaningful development. It focuses on individualized guidance, problem-solving, and reflective practices, ensuring families feel supported and capable of facilitating their child’s progress.

Greg Cimino has a diverse professional background, having served as a Register of EC Council University, Adjunct Faculty of Brown Mackie College, and Adult Basic Education Tutor at Youth Development Inc. I have over 12 years of experience in the Early Childhood Education field with a diverse background. After earning my BA in Child Development, I began my career at Youth Development Inc (YDI) as a teacher. Over the years, I progressed through roles including Family Advocate, Disabilities Coordinator, and Preschool Center Director. Currently, I serve as the Senior Associate Director, overseeing our home visitation and NM State PreK programs. Alongside my professional journey, I completed my Masters in Early Childhood Education, further enhancing my expertise in the field.

Born and raised in Albuquerque, Olyvia Lee has dedicated her career to enhancing community recreation and education initiatives. With extensive experience in coordinator and management roles within the City of Albuquerque, she now oversees the Therapeutic Recreation (TR) youth and adult inclusion programs. Olyvia is passionate about developing training for both full-time and part-time staff to increase awareness of access and inclusion issues for people with disabilities across various programs.

Guide to In-Kind Donations to LifeROOTS, Inc.

Step 1: Identify the Items to Donate

Volunteer Grant Programs

1. Check Eligibility

Confirm with your employer or HR department to see if your company offers volunteer grant programs (Example: Dollars for Doers).

2. Volunteer for a Nonprofit

Choose LifeROOTS, Inc. as your nonprofit where you will volunteer your time. We qualify as a nonprofit (501(c)(3) status.

3. Track Your Volunteer Hours

Keep a record of the time you spend volunteering. Most programs require a minimum number of hours (e.g., 10 or 20 hours) before you are eligible for the grant.

4. Access Your Employer’s Volunteer Portal

Go to your company’s internal volunteer or corporate giving portal (if available). If your company doesn’t have a portal, contact HR for instructions on how to submit hours manually.

5. Submit Your Volunteer Hours

Log your volunteer hours through the portal or by completing a paper form (if required). Be sure to include details like:
- Nonprofit name: LifeROOTS, Inc.
- Dates and total hours volunteered
- Description of activities

6. Follow-Up with the Nonprofit

Notify us at [email protected] so that we are aware of your submission.

7. Receive Your Grant

Once approved, your company will donate the grant amount to lifeROOTS, Inc. on your behalf. This can take several weeks, depending on company policies.

Creating a Facebook Fundraiser for LifeROOTS

Step 1: Log into Your Facebook Account

Open the Facebook app or go to facebook.com and log in with your personal credentials.

Step 2: Visit LifeROOTS’ Facebook Page

In the Facebook search bar, type “LifeROOTS” or visit LifeROOTS NM’s page.

Step 3: Click on “Fundraisers”

Once on the LifeROOTS page, locate the navigation bar just below the cover photo.
Click on the “Fundraisers” tab, which might be under a “More” dropdown if it’s not immediately visible.

Step 4: Select “Raise Money”

On the Fundraisers page, you’ll see an option to “Raise Money” or “Create Fundraiser.” Click on this.

Step 5: Set Up the Fundraiser

Title: Give your fundraiser a compelling title (e.g., “Support LifeROOTS: Empowering Those with Extra Needs”).
Goal: Set a fundraising goal amount.
End Date: Choose when you want the fundraiser to end.
Description: Facebook may auto-fill the description, but you can personalize it by explaining why you are raising money for LifeROOTS and how their work impacts people with extra needs in the community.

Step 6: Add a Cover Photo (Optional)

You can either use the default image provided by LifeROOTS or upload your own.

Step 7: Click “Create”

Once you’ve reviewed everything, click “Create” to publish the fundraiser.

Step 8: Share and Promote Your Fundraiser

Share your fundraiser with friends and family via your timeline, direct messages, or Facebook groups to increase visibility and donations.

Definition of Developmental Disability Approved by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the New Mexico Developmental Disability Waiver Application:

The individual must have a developmental disability and mental retardation or a specific related condition. Related conditions are limited to cerebral palsy, autism (including Asperger Syndrome), seizure disorder, chromosomal disorders (e.g., Downs), syndrome disorders, inborn errors of metabolism, and developmental disorders of brain formation.

Developmental disability is defined as a severe chronic disability, other than mental illness that:

Is attributable to a mental or physical impairment, including the result of trauma to the brain or a combination of mental and physical impairment.
Is manifested before the person reaches the age of twenty-two (22).
Is expected to continue indefinitely.
Results in a substantial functional limitation in three or more of the following areas of major life activity: self-care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, self-direction, capacity for independent living, and economic self-sufficiency; and
Reflects the person’s need for a combination and sequence of special or interdisciplinary treatment, generic or other support and services that are of lifelong or extended duration and are individually planned and coordinated.

Eligibility

Any child under the age of three who is a resident of New Mexico may be eligible under one of the following categories:

Developmental Delay of 25% or more in one area of development, including motor, language, cognitive, sensory, adaptive or social-emotional development.
Established Condition that has a high probability of causing a developmental delay such as vision or hearing loss, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc.
At Risk due to medical or biological factors such as low birth weight or prematurity
At Risk for Developmental Delays due to environmental conditions that could affect your child’s development

Who can Refer a Child?

Anyone who has a concern about a child’s development may make a referral. This includes parents, guardians, foster parents, family members or professionals and childcare providers, or others who have contact with the child. Referrals must be made with parent/guardian consent and or knowledge.

Who will contact the family?

A family service coordinator (case manager) will meet with the family and inform them about early intervention. If the family agrees to participate, the family service coordinator will help arrange a comprehensive developmental evaluation.

Determining If Your Child is Eligible

A team that includes you, your Family Service Coordinator and professionals who were part of the evaluation determine your child’s eligibility for the FIT Program. The team will consider information from medical and other records, assessment results and professional judgment in determining eligibility under one of the four FIT Program eligibility categories. Your child’s eligibility will be documented in his or her record and is only shared with people for whom you have signed a release.

What If Your Child is Found to be Not Eligible?

If the team decides, based upon the evaluation, that your child is not eligible for the FIT Program, your Family Service Coordinator will help you explore other supports or resources in your community. The Family Service Coordinator can also give you copies of a screening tool, which you can use to monitor your child’s development. If you have concerns in the future, your child may have another evaluation. If you disagree with the results of the evaluation, you can appeal by calling the FIT Program toll-free at (877) 696-1472.
